The month of October is dedicated to breast cancer awareness, and Rotary Clubs around the world have been very active in their efforts to increase awareness and stem the growth of the disease in diverse ways across the world.

It is in the same spirit that the Rotary Club of Accra East has undertaken this collaborative initiative to provide accessible medical assistance to traders at Madina market. It partnered with sister Rotary clubs, such as Rotary clubs of Accra Legon East, Accra Legon, Accra Trinity, Accra Spintex, Accra SpeakMasters, Accra Airport East, Akosombo Dam City, Accra Airport City, Alumni Association, Accra Adenta, Accra Roman Ridge, Rotary Satellite Club of Accra East Maccarthy Hill, and Rotary club of E-club of Ghana as well as Rotract clubs of Accra East, Adenta Central,UPSA, WIUC and Adenta.

The event had a team of seasoned healthcare professionals to screen the breasts of beneficiaries and also to diagnose. The experts conducted thorough check-ups and offered information about breast cancer, emphasizing the importance of routine screenings for early detection.

The breast screening program provided the women with an opportunity to prioritize their health amidst their day-to-day responsibilities.

According to the club president of the Rotary club of Accra-East, Serge Sourou Oga, they believe that by bringing these crucial healthcare services directly to the traders at Madina market, they can make a significant impact in the fight against breast cancer.

The Rotary clubs encouraged all women at the Madina market to prioritise their health and participate in routine screenings, to help detect breast cancer in its early stages, leading to higher chances of successful treatment.

The clubs believe, by promoting awareness and providing essential healthcare services, women will be empowered to contribute to a healthier and stronger community.
