In an exceptional collaboration, members of the Rotary club of Accra-Spintex within Rotary district 9104 have partnered with the Dental Association of Ghana and Unilever Ghana Limited to organize an oral health education and screening initiative for inmates of St Francis Rehab Center at Ashaiman, a surbub of Accra.
Dubbed “talktoyourdentist”, this laudable initiative aims to provide vital oral health knowledge and services to the clients at the facility.
Led by the Rotary club of Accra-Spintex, a global network of community volunteers, this innovative program is a testament to the power of collaboration and community service.
Recognizing the importance of oral health in overall well-being, the Rotary club, of Accra-Spintex hand in hand with its partners- Dental Association of Ghana and Unilever Ghana Limited is committed to improving the lives of those in need.
With healthcare professionals, dental hygienists, and volunteers, the Rotary club facilitated this comprehensive oral health education session for the inmates. The inmates were provided with informative lectures and interactive sessions on the importance of oral hygiene practices.

Following the educational sessions, the organizers conducted screenings to assess the oral health of the inmates. Utilizing state-of-the-art dental equipment, dental professionals and hygienists identified potential dental issues such as cavities, gum diseases, or other oral health concerns. The inmates received immediate counseling and guidance for any urgent dental needs, and recommendations were made for further treatment, if required.
The President of the Rotary Club of Accra-Spintex, Nortse Amarteifo reiterated Rotary’s commitment to impacting and improving the lives of those in need.
Mr. Nortse Amartefio while expressing delight for the collaboration, reminded rotarians to make impact wherever they find themselves.
“Let us extend our empathy, our understanding and support to their mental health Journey”. Let us be advocate of change, voices of compassion and catalyst for a world where mental health is given the importance it rightly deserve”. Mr Nortse appealed.
The Brand manager of Pepsodent, Mr. Elvis Twumasi described the partnership with the Rotary club and the Dental Association of Ghana as a good illustration of giving back to the society and assured of a continuous partnership going forward.
“For this partnership, what we are seeking to do is that, make it a long lasting partnership with the Rotary club. Every year which facility can we go and provide this dental screening to the very people who need it best”.- Mr. Twumasi said.

The collaborative effort and commitment of the participating organizations have brought invaluable benefits to the inmates of the rehabilitation facility. By addressing oral health issues through education, screening, and providing essential supplies, the Rotary club of Accra-Spintex and its partners have not only improved the oral health of the inmates but have also contributed greatly to their overall well-being and rehabilitation process.
