Rotary Club of Accra-Airport City, Accra-La East & Oyster Integrated donate sanitary pads to school girls

The Rotary Club of Accra-Airport City in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Accra-La East and Oyster Integrated have presented hampers of sanitary pads comprising of exercise books to school girls at LA Wireless 5 primary and Junior High School in the Greater Accra Region.

The donors also used the occasion to educate the learners on maintaining a healthy lifestyle during and after menstruation.

The gesture forms part of the menstrual hygiene awareness campaign dubbed”Pad a girl- A female Hygiene project”.

The gesture also is in line with Rotary International and Rotary District 9102 goals for this Rotary year as part of girls empowerment.

The President of the Rotary Club of Accra-Airport City, Mrs. Genevive Kwashie who led the club and its partners to make the donations said the club is committed to supporting sustainable projects which impact people.

Mrs. Genevive Kwashie underscored the importance of supporting girls during menstruation.

For her part, the President of the Rotary club of Accra-La East, Mrs Julia Asante Anim, said the the donation of the sanitary pads to school pupils of LA Wireless 5 primary and Junior High School is a declaration made by the Rotary International President, Jennifer Jones directing all clubs to make girl child empowerment their number one priority .

Mrs Julia Asante Anim again emphasized the importance of making sanitary pads available to girls so they can observe safe menstruation.

The clubs advised the students not to feel ashamed with any stigma that is associated with menstruation saying stakeholders are making the necessary effort to improve menstrual hygiene awareness as well as improving period poverty.

In return, the leaners expressed appreciation to the donors for the gesture.
