National Council of Hausa Fulani Leadership Awards 2023 Recognizes Outstanding Personalities

The National Council of Hausa Fulani Leadership Awards 2023 has taken place honoring esteemed personalities and individuals who have and are making significant contributions to the Hausa Fulani community.

The event took place on the 29th of October 2023 at Gomao Fetteh Nyame Nadom Zongo – a suburb of Kasoa in the Central Region of Ghana. It was the maiden edition to be held in that part of the country. 

The 2023 edition of the awards showcased the rich cultural heritage and accomplishments of this influential personalities in the community.

The awards ceremony brought together illustrious sons and daughters of the Hausa Fulani community as well as esteemed members from diverse backgrounds including leaders, scholars, professionals, and community stakeholder as well as women groups.

 The event aimed to recognize and celebrate the achievements of individuals who have and are making remarkable strides in diverse fields as well as those who are impacting the Hausa Fulani society positively. 

Several categories were presented during the National Council of Hausa Fulani Leadership Awards 2023 . 

One of the ceremony’s highlights was the recognition of political figures who have served as beacons of change in their communities. This category went to Mavis Hawa Koomson -Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency in the Central Region  and Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development. She was recognized for her effort in advancing good governance, fostering social and economic development, and promoting inclusive policies that accommodate diverse interests within the constituency.

Others were recognized for their dedication to community service, by dedicating their lives to uplifting their communities. Winners of this category were:

  1. Kow Abaka ( Gomoa Fetteh Obusua panin)

2. Sarki Ibrahim Ali ( Gomoa Kumbe and Gomao Fetteh Zango Chiefs)

3. Nana Kwesi Kwansah I ( Gomoa Fetteh Omankarado)

4. Sarki Awudu Issaka Giwa I ( Chief of Nyanyano Zango and Head of Gomoa Zongo Chiefs ) 

5. Dr Sheikh Yahyal Amiin ( Khalifa of National Chief Imam. Dr Sheikh Yahya Amin is an internationally-renowned Islamic scholar who is also the Khalifa of the His Eminence National Chief Imam of ghana, Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu. He is the recipient of numerous international and local awards due to his religious and developmental contributions to society. He served as the guest speaker for the event ).

Speaking at the occasion, the President of National Council of Hausa Fulani Chiefs, Dr Lamido Sheikh Jibril Sissy  who is also the Public Relations Officer of the National Council of Zongo Chiefs, Jaase of all Muslims and Zango chiefs residing in Gbawe Lands and it’s environs , Chairman  of Ga Central Council of Zongo Chiefs and Veteran multi skilled international Journalist, said “we are immensely proud of the exceptional leaders being celebrated today. They have demonstrated unwavering commitment to progress and have set a standard of excellence for future leaders. We believe their stories will serve as a source of inspiration, motivating others to strive for similar achievements.”.

Dr Lamido Sheikh Jibril Sissy remarks emphasized the importance of recognizing and encouraging excellence within the community. 

The National Council of Hausa Fulani Leadership Awards 2023 celebrated leadership excellence, emphasizing the power of individuals to influence positive change. Through this event, the Council aimed to inspire a new generation of leaders, fostering a sense of responsibility and commitment among the Hausa Fulani community.

The  National Council of Hausa Fulani Leadership Awards 2023 also witnessed some rich and indigenous Hausa Fulani culture and dance on display. 

The awards ceremony not only acknowledges the outstanding achievements of individuals but also serves as a reminder of the collective strength and resilience of the Hausa Fulani community as a whole. It provides an opportunity to celebrate the rich cultural heritage and traditions that have shaped the community’s history.

The maiden edition of the event sends a powerful message to young Hausa Fulani individuals that, their hard work, dedication, and commitment to serving their community can make a significant difference.

The organizers are of the strong belief that, by acknowledging individuals who have made and are making  a significant impact, in their respective societies, it will inspire others and foster a sense of pride and unity within the community.

The awards ceremony was chaired by Nana Kwesi Amoani  I, Odikro of Gomoa Bantama- Millennium City.

In all, the National Council of Hausa Fulani Leadership Awards 2023 was a resounding success, as it provided the platform to celebrate deserving and outstanding achievers in various fields and inspiring the next generation of leaders within the Hausa Fulani community.
