Background

In a world where politicians are often seen as inaccessible, few ones serve as a shining example of how leaders can foster a sense of closeness to fellow citizens irrespective of their status in life.  One of such personalities is Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Information - Fatimatu Abubakar.  Fatimatu Abubakar per her position as a high-ranking government official, is a busy person but when she meets fellow countrymen, she displays some level of kindness and inclusivity.

First Impression About Fatimatu Abubakar

Recently, the African Prosperity Network, organizers of the Africa Prosperity Dialogue Held a Partners Cocktail launch ahead of its 2nd Africa Prosperity Dialogue which will take place in Ghana from Thursday, 25 to Saturday, 27 January 2024. The gathering was an array of Heads of institutions, captains of industry, and members of the international community.  Among the dignitaries present for the night's gathering was Fatimatu Abubakar, Deputy Information Minister of Ghana. Fatimatu Abubakar came in the companied of the Information Minister Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

What Transpired

I walked to the deputy minister of information - Fatimatu Abubakar and introduced myself to her. Surprisingly, she displays some kindness and inclusivity towards me. For me as a young content creator, it was an opportunity of witnessing firsthand the genuine warmth and friendliness exuded by the deputy information minister. What made this encounter even more extraordinary was that she presented me with her complimentary and extended an invitation to visit her office whenever I had free time.  Such openness and accessibility from a high-ranking government official showcased the deputy minister's commitment to fostering a  positive relationship with fellow countrymen.

Afterthought

So then, I asked myself, how many ministers and high-profile Ghanaians will exhibit such acts of kindness to fellow citizens? Although Ghana is known for its commitment to democracy and inclusivity, leaders like the deputy minister embody these principles. The warm reception and invitation extended to me by the deputy minister serve as a testament to her dedication to fostering a sense of unity among the people, regardless of their backgrounds or positions.

Conclusion

All in all, I am of the view that, as citizens, let us both recognize and appreciate the efforts of leaders like the deputy minister of information- Fatimatu Abubakar who strive to bridge the gap between the people and their government. It is through such dedication and genuine care that the spirit of democracy flourishes.
